Visitor Reviews & Stories
Dear Vicki, Brad, Ally & staff at Stewart Mountain Lodging....
Thank-you for a truly wonderful and unforgettable Utah vacation !! The Storybook Stone Cottage was beyond our expectations and appropriately named. Provo Canyon was a grand entrance indeed. Passing-by Bridal Veil Falls set the stage for a remarkable week exploring Uinta National Forest, Provo, Orem, Salt Lake City, Heber City, and points south including Moab. Arches National Park was simply incredible. My daughter caught her 1st rainbow & brown trout fly-fishing the Provo River just a few miles down the road from our cabin; she’s still smiling a week later….it’s an experience she will never forget. The hike to Stewart Falls was magical. We found the accommodations to be breathless, the weather inviting, and the locals very welcoming.
We can’t wait to return, there’s so much more to explore. Utah and Stewart Mountain Lodging are irresistible…..
with warm regards,

I really cant recommend the Stone Cottage enough. It is super idyllic and secluded, but a very short walk from the slopes. Vicki is ace, really helpful, great communication. Would definitely stay here again.

Storybook Stone Cottage was the perfect place to escape, relax and enjoy all the beauty Utah has to offer. The cottage was clean, warm and inviting upon our arrival. We were thrilled to find a fully stocked kitchen and enjoyed being able to cook some of our meals and enjoy them outside next to the picturesque stream. We loved seeing all the wildlife around us - hummingbirds right on the porch, rabbits, squirrels and turkeys roamed around the yard. The close proximity to Sundance, while having privacy, peace and quite was perfect for us. We traveled to Utah for a half marathon and having a wonderful nights sleep prior to and a hot tub to recover in after was amazing. Wyatt was incredibly kind and helpful, we would recommend to Stone Cottage or any of Stewart Mountain Lodgings other accommodations. We were able to easily travel to Park City, the Timpanogos Caves, Bridal Veil Falls, and hiking at Sundance. We only wished we could stay longer and are eagerly looking forward to returning!

My wife and I are extremely busy people. Our careers and family keep us so engaged that we rarely find time to vacation and enjoy what we’ve worked so hard for throughout our lives. Karen, my wife, discovered the Stewart Mountain Lodging website and through the pictures and testimonials of others we found and hoped that this place would offer us the adventure, beauty, solitude and reward we were looking for in a destination. After speaking with Vicki and Wyatt, the cooperation we received through their willingness to help us plan we knew this was something we must experience. Great people who have not lost the importance of what it means to enjoy life and the greatest architect of all, mother nature. The Wasatch Mountains are majestic and leave you in an awe that stays with you forever. I will forever remember this trip and hold it close to my heart.
The cabins and location of the lodging are straight from a storybook tale. My short stay was filled with a mountain summit, zip lining over the Provo river canyon, visits to Sundance for trout hash breakfasts, outdoor theatre, a trip to the Moab desert and endless hikes through some of the most beautiful country I have ever had the privilege to explore. We lost ourselves in the abundance of nature and found ourselves in the beauty of the mountains.
Sundance, Utah simply renewed our spirit and zest for life. If you are looking for a place to visit and feel like you’re at home, look no further. The convenience of the Stewart Mountain Lodging location to grocery stores and the cooperation you will receive from the knowledgeable Stewart friends and family will enable you to fulfill whatever you are looking for in an adventure vacation. Fly fish, sit in the hot tub, cook fresh bison as hummingbirds feed on the sugar water feeders or climb 11,752 feet to the Mount Timpanogos summit. I’ll go back someday soon and all I’d like to do this time is sit back by the stream running through our cottage and reflect on how great the last visit was. Who am I kidding, I’ll be running up that mountain at 0500 am wondering why I’m so compelled to be in its grasp.
Chicago, Illinois has been my home since I was born, and I love my home but when I am given the chance to relocate and settle down to grow old, Sundance is my first pick. Stewart Mountain Lodging is a 5 star experience. It’s a dream come true.

Sundance is just about my all time favorite destination ... and is becoming my home away from home! I felt most at home in stone cottage!! It truly offers the most charming and cozy of accommodations I've experienced...after arriving and excitedly taking a look around, I unpacked my suitcase, put away the groceries, lit a few candles, made a fire and voila, I was home!!
Aside from having a central fireplace so that I could enjoy the fire from both the kitchen as well as the living area, I would have to say the most special feature of stone is that it sits right on the stream...kept the windows open throughout my stay to enjoy the peaceful sound of the water--there is nothing like it! And speaking of water, what better way to end each evening than with a nightly dip in the hot tub before bed?!
As far as my stay in the cottage itself, I had everything I needed and if I had any questions, Vicki, Brad and Wyatt were just a phone call away!
My goal on this particular visit to Sundance, was to finally hike to the summit of Mt. Timpanogos and with their guide service offerings, Wyatt of Stewart Mountain Lodging, helped me accomplish that goal! An experienced and knowledgeable guide, it was an excellent and memorable adventure thanks to Wyatt and SML!
Upon my request for the morning following the big hike, SML arranged for victoria to come to the cottage ... she set up her massage table in front of the fireplace and as I dreamily lay there, any sore muscles from the day before melted away ... getting a massage in front of a warm, crackling fire while listening to the water outside -- the last thing I wanted to do was pack my suitcase and go home to new york city, BUT I will most definitely be back as soon as I can!!
Thank you all at SML: Brad, Vicki, Wyatt and the rest of your wonderfully accommodating staff...this was most certainly my best Sundance trip yet!!

Dear Brad and Vicki,
Thank you so much for following your vision and creating such a delightful wonderland for three excited boys and their young-minded parents! We needed a nearby retreat and were planning to just stay in a hotel in Park City- but stumbled upon your website and will forever be lad we did. Instead of just "getting away" for a day we really fell like we escaped to a new adventure. We loved the birdhouse, the boys swam in the hot tub multiple times and especially loved the zip line. We had planned to hike but loved this little paradise so much, we didn't want to leave! Thanks so much for everything- we'll be back!

The cottage is truly right out of a storybook! We stayed just two nights and wish we had been able to stay longer. It has everything you could possibly need and more. I am considering building a "birdhouse" for my son in our backyard, although I think he would rather have the stream. Thank you very much, we had a great time!

"Debby and I had a wonderful 3 night stay here. We loved having the hummingbirds overhead at every meal. While in the hot tub this morning we watched an American Dipper feeding another Dipper. Mate? Offspring? We couldn't tell for sure. We also saw a Raptor grab its meal, but couldn't tell what was on the menu. Yesterday we hiked up Mount Timpanogos via the Timpooneke Trail. We said "uncle" at the saddle and skipped the last 0.9 mile to the peak. It was a BEAUTIFUL hike with 2 mouse, 2 deer, and one forest fire. We were "evacuated" due to the fire, but never in any danger. Still it made for a memorable hike. Last night we enjoyed dinner at Sundance then viewed the firewords from Squaw Peak Overlook. Too bad vacations must come to an end. We loved it here. Maybe next time we'll take our grandchildren."

"My fiance and I recently spent three nights at this wonderful cottage. We wished then, and continue to wish today, that it could have been three decades (at least).
Though my words, like any pictures, will not do justice to a simply magical place, I feel compelled to at least try. For everything about this storybook cottage is spectacular, from its awe inspiring physical setting to the top of the line appliances that grace its kitchen. Indeed, the cottage possesses an almost ethereal quality about it, an uncanny ability to make one feel fully relaxed, ensconced in comfort, and completely at home. Spotlessly clean, meticulously detailed, and infinitely inviting, we both pouted like children when we had to leave. Apparently, we're not the only ones to have had this reaction. In fact, the folks that occupied the cottage before us left family photos about, apparently in an effort to co-opt the place for themselves. Oh, were it only that easy. Oh, if only I could have had that brilliant, and deeply understood, idea. Adoptive efforts aside, the cottage remains under the loving care of Brad and Vicki, and two nicer people do not exist on this planet. We were fortunate enough to spend a little time with these fine people, and we consider ourselves far richer for having made the acquaintance of two new friends. It's just not like me to gush about a place so effusively; as I'm anything but the easiest guy to impress. Still, of all the places I have ever stayed, I can honestly, and without any hesitation, state that this storybook cottage is hands down the finest. I cannot recommend any place, or anything, more highly. We will be back; and, next time, I'm bringing our family photos. Bigger ones."
"We loved this adorable cottage from the first time we caught glimpse of it. My husband, as a surprise for myself and our three kids, rented it for us as a weekend getaway in the mountains. The setting is perfect; a stone cottage and guest room loft house with a fresh mountain river running between them. A quaint bridge connects the two areas. But dont think you will be roughing it here...this property boasts high end amenities. The cottage is very well maintained with cozy decor and a beautiful stone fireplace at the center of the home. The sound of the river will lull you to sleep at night and provides a cool escape from the summer heat. At night, the home is lit by white christmas lights along the lines of the roof creating a festive atmosphere - my kids loved it. A hot tub and BBQ with outdoor eating area complete the exterior. Inside there are two bedrooms on the main level with a bathroom in between and a loft bedroom upstairs with a children's play area. The living room and kitchen area, though both lovely and well appointed, were a bit small for our family of five. Because of the that, and the fact that there was not a washer/dryer were the only reasons I gave a 4 star rating instead of 5. Vicki and Brad were wonderful to work with and truly have a passion for the Sundance area. They were very informative and helpful and just lovely, generous hosts. We would definitely recommend this cottage! We loved our stay and Vicki and Brad were great to work with and wonderful hosts."

“I truly cannot say enough about this absolute gem of a vacation accommodation. To start, Vicki and Brad are the most generous, kindest hosts we’ve ever encountered. Ever. Their enthusiasm for their chosen place of residence exudes from their pores, and the lengths they go to ensure that your stay is enjoyable are unprecedented. And more, they do this without being obtrusive. The cottage – there are not enough words. It is beyond darling. We were there with 5 kids, which did make it a bit tight. But with 3 or fewer kids, it would be absolutely perfect. It’s like a little gingerbread house in the woods. It has character beyond any cabin I’ve ever stayed in, and the little touches are everywhere. You can tell that so much love has been put into this cottage, and you feel it while staying there. We would return again and again (and again)!”

“What a magical and lovely place! A perfect place to get engaged; which Scott and I did, right here, on my birthday! I will never forget this place. The accomodations are first class. I will miss the mountain scents, the babbling stream, the hummingbirds, the patios, the hot tub. I will return often in my mind when the realities of day to day life return. I know we will come back some day soon!”
Suzanne – Eastlake, OH
“We felt like Hobbits in your cozy Stone Cottage! We enjoyed discovering the various treasures of this magical place — the wild turkeys, books, paintings, and fresh-squeezed OJ, just to name a few. My kids loved the zip line! They want to come here every year, so we’ll be back!”
The Johnson Family
“Wow! We all loved every minute we spent in your “treasure” of a place here! It seemed like a magical, welcoming cottage from the minute we drove up and saw the white lights oulining the cozy stone cottage. Your hospitality was gracious and so beyond what we could have expected! You are DELIGHTFUL hosts. Our children were so happy here. Our whole family had a magical time visiting Sundance and we’d all love to come back again. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts."
