Hand-made rings, a candelit cabin in the  mountains, a surprise proposal: all of it happened right here last weekend! Our intern here at Stewart Mountain Lodging, Whitney, got engaged!

The story in Whitney’s words:

“Our Sundance engagement really began when we started making our wedding rings with Brittany Golden. Vicki recommended Brittany (she teaches a jewelry-making class at the Sundance resort) to me when she heard we were having a rough time finding a ring.”

“After a couple of days at Brittany’s studio and a beautiful day at the park working on our rings, our part was done and we simply had to wait for the rings to be cast and for the stones to be placed. This was the hard part! I really wanted the official proposal to be a surprise but I was sooooo excited to see the rings!

One Saturday (last Saturday, in fact) Joe suggested we go up to a restaurant in Sundance, which I was totally up for… but as we were going up the mountain he passed the resort. When I pointed that out he just said, “Oh it’s just a little further.” I was a little confused, but didn’t think much of it. Then he started pulling into Big Pine Canyon where the Creekside cabin and Storybook Stone Cottage are. I pointed out the Creekside cabin to him because we had stayed there as a group last Fall.

In fact, that fall weekend was very eventful for us. We had come with our roommates (but mainly I was scheming to get him come for the weekend because I was already crazy about him). That weekend we had our first kiss, stayed up late just talking, then we decided that we were finally going to be exclusive. It was basically the best weekend ever – maybe to be topped only by one other visit.

Once I pointed out the Creekside cabin to him, he pulled up, put the car in park, and turned off the ignition. Huh? I was very confused, especially when he said we should go in. I had no idea if someone was staying there this weekend, and it was like he just wanted to waltz in and take a walk down memory lane!

As soon as we walked in, I saw candles lit everywhere! There were flowers, dinner on the table, and romantic music playing. It took me a moment to realize that this was planned, but by the time I did, Joe was already on his knee with the most amazing ring I have ever seen. We spent a romantic evening enjoying dinner together and reminiscing about the last time we were at the cabin.

As it turns out, Joe and Vicki had been secretly planning this whole night.

Next on the list is our engagements up at Sundance (pictures to come!), and then come August, we will be coming back once again for our honeymoon. You could say we are so excited!”

Congratulations Whitney & Joe! We can’t wait to be a part of the celebration!
