Exclusively for our guests
One evening in December, Santa comes to the Hollow, our own acre two minutes' walk upstream from Sundance Resort. Hank Stewart picked it out when the family homesteaded this canyon, and the stone fireplace he built in the thirties is still standing.
Before you arrive
The tree up before you open the door, and Christmas dinner taken care of. Much of it has to be booked weeks ahead: the train and the tubing hill run to their own calendars, and we know which have gone. Give us the dates and it is arranged before you arrive.
Over the holiday
Christmas festivities, snow activities, and something warm when you’re done with snow boots and ready to relax. If we don’t offer it, we can arrange it.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. One evening in December, Santa comes to the Hollow, our own acre 2 minutes' walk upstream from Sundance Resort. The evening is for our guests only, with the fire pit lit and festivities around it. We'll confirm this year's details closer to the time.
They are two different weeks. Christmas is the run up and the day itself, with Santa at the Hollow. New Year is the quieter half, with no presents to carry up the canyon and the mountain still lit 4 nights a week. If you are bringing young children, Christmas is the week with Santa in it.
Yes, while cabins last. This is the busiest fortnight of the year and the choice narrows well before the dates sell out, so the earlier you ask the more there is to pick from. Search your dates and the cabins still open over the holiday will come back.
5, over the holiday itself. From December 19 to January 4 every cabin open for booking asks for 5 nights, and a shorter stay will not go through. Either side of that it drops back to 2. Utah schools break from December 21 to January 1, so the 5 nights sit exactly where everybody wants to travel. Start on whichever day suits you: plenty of places up here run fixed Saturday to Saturday weeks over Christmas and we do not.
Get in touch. With 40+ properties on the mountain we can usually point you at one that suits the group just as well. Tell us the numbers, the dates and what matters most.
Cancel more than 30 days before you arrive and the deposit comes back less a $50 fee and the card processing charge. Inside 30 days there's no refund, and leaving early doesn't earn one either. A 30 percent deposit is taken at booking unless you're already inside that 30 days. Travel insurance is worth it for a December booking. GAP:these are the standard terms and nobody has confirmed whether Christmas differs.
No one can promise snow in a particular week, but the odds here are good. Sundance averages 265 inches a year, with snowmaking to cover the lean spells, and the resort usually opens in early December. We'll update this as the season gets closer.
Four-wheel drive, all-wheel drive or tire chains, from November 1 through the end of March. That is the Utah Highway Patrol's requirement rather than ours: the canyon roads stay snow-packed rather than cleared to asphalt. The resort posts road status every morning at 5am.
Many have a private hot tub, a fireplace, or both, and it varies by property. Tell us which of the two matters more and we'll match you.
Every kitchen is well equipped and ready to use, with proper cookware, spices and teas. The concierge can stock the fridge before you arrive so you're not shopping on the 24th.
Yes, at the cabins set up for it. Not every property takes pets, so tell us early and we'll put you in one that does. Most people are bringing a dog, and Christmas is the week the kennels are full and somebody has to have him, so it is worth asking before you settle on a cabin.
The range runs from a stone cottage for 4 up to mountain homes that sleep 16. Christmas is the week a family arrives all at once, so tell us the numbers and the ages first and we will find the one that fits.
Our concierge is available to every guest, and the service itself costs nothing. What the concierge books for you, a chef or a massage or the fridge stocked before you arrive, is charged at its own price.
Around 45 minutes by car, and roughly 20 minutes from Provo. In December, allow more and bring the right tires.
